Gulf Wars "Fencing" Report

Precious little fencing got done at Gulf Wars. I have here a few notes for myself, written about a week and a half after-the-fact.

So, I decided to find people and fight a bunch of pickups, rather than dwelling on it. By and large I was pleased by how they went. I still have trouble with people who stand in a gunslinger stance, largely because it's just not terribly common here. I know how to deal with it, I just don't get enough experience dealing with it in real-world scenarios.

I also fought a MoD of Atlantia. He was super good at a particular way of rushing me, which completely blanked from my brain after we finished our passes. Like, usually I can remember how I died in a fight, but the way he was rushing me just sort of vanished from my head. It's a bit frustrating, but I'll have fun trying to piece it together. He's a lefty, and it somehow involved barring my sword low and to the right, then using the two tempi necessary for me to get my sword out to stab me.

I also talked with a MoD of Ansteorra. He had an interesting false-edge opposition thing that I have been trying to imitate for a while. Turns out, he performs it sort of like a Giganti-style disengage, but the V is diagonal rather than a standard V. This will make no sense to anyone but me, but that's how the cookie crumbles.

And then rain, and a tornado, and more rain, and visiting New Orleans.
